In the heart of London's vibrant Covent Garden, within a majestic Grade II-listed 19th-century building, lies NoMad London—a hotel that transcends the conventional luxury experience. More than just a place to stay, it is a narrative woven from history, cross-continental design, and deeply curated aesthetics. Conceived by the renowned New York studio Roman and Williams, the property masterfully orchestrates a dialogue between rich Victorian architecture and the bold, eclectic spirit of New York. This unique positioning demanded furniture that was not merely functional but characterful, pieces that could act as silent storytellers within this layered environment. For such a distinct project, where every object contributes to the atmosphere, Karam Spaces was entrusted to provide furniture solutions that honour the building’s heritage, embrace the eclectic vision, and meet the rigorous demands of a world-class boutique hotel.
Honouring History, Enabling Modern Luxury, and Defining Eclectic Cohesion
The project presented a compelling set of challenges. First and foremost was the imperative to respect and complement the historic fabric of the Grade II-listed building. Furniture needed to feel intrinsic to the space, as if evolved with it, avoiding any trace of generic or anachronistic imposition. Second, within the hotel’s "eclectic crossover" philosophy, there was a fine line between curated collision and visual chaos. Each piece required intentionality, contributing to a cohesive yet fascinatingly varied whole across 91 unique rooms and dynamic public spaces. Third, despite the vintage-inspired aesthetic, every item had to fulfill the uncompromising functional and durability requirements of a 24/7 boutique hotel operation. Karam Spaces responded with a bespoke approach, delivering pieces that are historically resonant, narratively rich, and built for enduring performance.
The Atrium Restaurant & Bars: The Dramatic Heart
The crown jewel of NoMad London is its stunning atrium restaurant, a lush oasis under a soaring skylight. This space required furniture that matched its theatricality and supported diverse functions—from elegant dining to casual socializing. Karam Spaces supplied tailored dining chairs that blend robust, comfortable construction with exquisite detailing. Upholstered in sumptuous, performance-grade fabrics in deep, atmospheric hues, their forms reference classic silhouettes but are refined for contemporary comfort. The accompanying tables, with solid wood bases and resilient, finely-finished tops, provide a stage for Chef Michael Yates’s exquisite cuisine.
A Curated Urban Garden Escape
Tucked beyond the historic façades, NoMad London’s outdoor dining terrace offers a secluded sanctuary in the heart of Covent Garden. This open-air extension of the hotel’s transatlantic narrative provides a vibrant yet intimate setting where guests can dine under the London sky. Designed as an outdoor living room, the space masterfully blends the energy of the city with a sense of private, cultivated elegance. Karam Spaces furnished this terrace to complement its eclectic spirit and withstand the dynamic British climate.
